Job Description

Pine Woods Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our team! We are a Fear Free clinic and applicants who have or would like to pursue their Fear Free certification are encouraged to apply!

This is an excellent opportunity for an outgoing, client-focused assistant who thrives on building meaningful connections with clients and their pets while delivering exceptional patient care across exam room, outpatient, and surgical support workflows.

In this role, you will:
  • Ensure efficient exam room workflow, running rooms independently and anticipating the needs of the veterinary team throughout the day
  • Provide safe, gentle patient handling and restraint during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Support client education by clearly explaining treatment plans, discharge instructions, and home care recommendations with empathy and confidence
  • Collaborate with the veterinary team to support outpatient care and procedures, ensuring the highest standard of patient care
  • Assist the surgery team as needed with patient prep, setup, and recovery
  • Collect laboratory samples and support in-house diagnostics
  • Maintain accurate medical records and keep exam rooms clean, organized, and fully prepared between appointments

This position is ideal for a dependable, team-oriented assistant who excels in client engagement and exam room management while delivering compassionate, high-quality care.

Schedule: This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule, Monday-Friday, and usually one Saturday shift per month.

Minimum qualifications and skill set:
  • 1+ years of veterinary assistant, animal care, or related clinical experience required
  • Fear Free certification preferred; willingness to pursue certification required
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Client communication and education
    • Safe, gentle patient handling and restraint for dogs and cats of varying sizes and temperaments
    • Laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostics
    • Exam room management and outpatient workflow support
    • Accurate medical record keeping and treatment documentation
    • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
    • Surgical assistance support as needed
